2014 resolution as a yoga student, as a holistic practitioner, and as nothing but myself.

Happy New Year everyone.

This holiday season was pretty good one for me.

My last new year with husband was a lot of fun as well.
We had a countdown party with friends and a bunch of kids.
I actually don’t really get attached to kids who don’t belong to me, so having many kids was a bit annoying, yet kids play with each other, so I was fine.

This year, I had a low key new year with boyfriend.
30th was our first annual turkey dinner with musician friends.
We jammed and had a blast playing music, which I’m sure my hubby is proud of me.

Then, had a case of polish beer and leftover turkey was our new year feast.

One draw back of the new year holiday this year was that I was the middle of 40 days commitment, which passively forced me to wake up early and do yoga. In retrospect starting my new year from morning yoga was not a bad idea, if I had the sort of new year special intention from the beginning, but I only noticed that during my final pose, shivasana in which I just lay down still.

I am not sure what can be my resolution in terms of my yoga performance.
My right leg is rotated outward and a bit awkward, but I am. to sure if it can be fixed in one year.
I believe my classmates and myself will start teaching community yoga this coming February, that will be interesting.
I would not mind trying head stand this year, I think that is a pretty reasonable and realistic goal for this year.

In terms of work, I would like to be more intuitive.
I have been enjoying making a narrative of my client’s body-mind-spirit.
I don’t diagnose, I read the narrative.

As a holistic therapist, I have to take everything in consideration.
I hear about one’s physical issues (pain, ache), I ask about his emotional dynamic, and I let him ask his own spiritual well being.

He may indicate constipation, sinus congestion, loss of energy, and feeling lost.
He may have tendency to hold on things (house is full of junks?), he may have had an issue with his father when he was five.
He may be wearing a white sweater, and he may have monotone speech.
He may be slightly underweight and have a dry lips.
He may be having a hard time with his wife, and he may wake up at 3am every morning.

They all are related and indicative to recreate an unique narrative of this person.
In 2014, I would like to be more intuitive to recreate deeper narrative of each client.
In detail, I would like to be more familiar with Ayurveda and traditional Chinese Medicine.

At the studio, I would like to see more traffic.
More students, more clients, more inquiry, more walk-ins.
The more people experience us, the more healthier people will be in Cambridge.

My personal resolution is still keep playing music as I promised with my husband.
2013 had major improvements in my ukulele skill.

Also I would like to take care of boyfriend a bit more.
We found out that husband’s childhood friend hangs around our neighbourhood quite a bit.
The more I think the more I come to believe that boyfriend was introduced through husband.
Not only that he is very good for me even though I don’t hide the fact that I am still deeply in love with husband.
If boyfriend can love me with my husband living in my heart, I would love both him and husband as my life time journey.

These are just bullet list of my resolution for 2014.

I hope 2014 is better than 2013 for everyone around me, everyone in the town, everyone who came to read this blog, and everyone in the universe.

Teaching: Sun Saltation A (I will give myself B on that)

What a busy busy days.

My practice is, thanks to our supporting clients, booked up for next few weeks.
Have been fully booked.
Anyway, that’s my excuse of not keeping up with the journal.

Last Tuesday at YTT (Yoga teacher training) which has a regular class in its first half.
Teacher decided to let Yoga Teachers in Training to run Sun Saltation A.

That includes:

Tadasana (mountain pose)
Uttanasana (Intense Forward Being Pose)
Chataranga Dandasana (Plank)
Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward facing dog)
Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward facing dog)

I take ashtanga a few times a week, so I am comfortable with the sequence.
I also have taught in university classes as a TA, so I am ok with being in front of people.

However, what I underestimated was how difficult talking the sequence and contraindications/modification spontaneously while breathing through is!

Well, besides the fact English is my second language, giving body movement instructions in a sequential way spontaneously was hard.

I did ok except I made no eye contacts with students.
That I regretted a bit. That is something I can work on our next teaching demo.

I believe we will be teaching sun saltation B tonight.

We shall see.
